Do you have too many items cluttering up your home? Are you feeling lost about how to declutter without accidentally getting rid of anything that is actually important? Cluttering is something that can happen over a long period of time. One day, you wake up and realize that there are just too many things stuffed into your dwelling for you to be comfortable any longer. But when most, if not all, of these items seem important then it can be difficult to decide what to get rid of and what to keep. In order to have an easier time of getting rid of stuff, here are some tips that you can try:
Get a storage unit: When it feels like you have no room to breathe, it can be difficult to sort out the good from the bad. One way that you can start sorting things is by getting a unit at a local self storage facility. Box up some of the stuff in your home at random and leave them at the storage facility. As you sort through your home and make more room, you can bring these boxes back to actually sort through them properly. This will help make the task feel smaller than it actually is.
One room at a time: If you try to declutter your entire home at once, you'll probably feel like you're not making any progress at all even though you've actually done a lot. In order to see measurable progress, go through your home one room at a time. Start by moving most or all of the contents of a small room to your self storage facility and use that as your base of operations. This room can be where you keep the items that you're planning on selling or donating in the near future as well as serve as a storage location for whatever supplies you feel are needed.
Keep a "maybe" pile: In order to get organized, many experts advise you to not have a "maybe" pile of items. You should only have things that you're definitely going to keep or definitely not going to keep. This can lead to you holding onto things that you're not quite sure about for a longer period of time than you actually should. Box up all of your "maybe" items and put them into a self storage facility for 6-12 months. Keep an itemized list at home so that you don't forget what's there. If you don't go to get any of these items within a set period of time, they can be safely disposed of in an appropriate manner without you having to worry about doing so.
